Consistory Meeting Summary, March 14 2007
Summary of Business Conducted at Consistory Meeting, 14 March 2007

Consistory passed a motion to hire Ben Falconer as Associate Pastor effective 1 July 2007. Consistory also passed a motion to hire Jon Saunders to succeed Ben as Director of Campus Ministry effective 1 July 2007. A congregational meeting will be held on 1 April at 12:00pm (immediately after the 11:00am service) to learn the mind of the congregation relative to the hiring of Ben.

Consistory accepted the report from the Building-Property Task Force Report. The report offered a number of observations and recommendations including the following:
1. There is no urgent need to move on expansion right now.
2. There was no clear, obvious choice for the next phase of expansion at this time.
3. There was concern about the stewardship implications over leaving behind a
strategically located facility for payment which would be much less that the
facility’s replacement value.
4. We need to maximize the use of our current facilities.
5. We believe that God willing, numerical growth will occur and the consistory
should deliberately prepare for that growth by:
a. Challenging the congregation to retire the existing mortgage and raise
additional funds to be poised to move ahead with future expansion
when the need arises.
b. Establish a “trigger point” perhaps when attendance at the two Sunday
am services hits 550 (on a non exceptional basis) at which point a
committee should be immediately appointed to look at the available
options and make an action recommendation.
c. Designate a small group of one or two to “be alert to continuing growth
trends at URC” and the availability of property and/or other venues that
might be suitable for expansion.
6. The time and energy spent on this matter has helped us to clarify the needs
URC needs to address in terms of excellence in stewardship and will allow for
the continued reliance on the Lord to lead us in the path he has for URC.
7. Withdraw the offer currently pending with the Eydes.
Members of the task force were: Kevin DeYoung, Evan Vanderwey, Gary Brinkman, Rick Pennings, Kristin Kluck, Chetta Higgins, Qiang Xue, and Brian Basch.

Pat Quinn will lead a 13-week class this summer called “Exploring Biblical Counseling.”

Consistory is working on developing a list of responsibilities for the Administrative Team.

Consistory approved the slate for new church officers:
Elder: Gerry Gothro, Dan Hudson, Brad Beals
Deacon: Aaron Guikema
Deaconess: Stefan Hull, Kathryn Patton

A congregational meeting will be held on Sunday, 29 April, after the 11:00 am service. There will be a GAB, a report on the His Hands Ministry, election of church officers, and a report on the conclusions reached by the Building-Property Task Force.
