Consistory Meetings Summary
Summary of Business conducted at Consistory Meetings, 11 October and 13 December 2006

In October, Consistory received an update on an 8.2-acre piece of property, within a mile of URC, that consistory is considering as a possible location for a new church building. Rick Pennings had been authorized by Consistory to begin negotiations for the purchase of this property. He has submitted an offer, subject to contingencies including congregational approval of the purchase. No response to the offer has been received at the time of the December meeting. Consistory will be meeting soon to determine a course of action relative to the acquisition of property with the intention of building on it in the future.

In October, Consistory authorized the purchase of two vans to be used as shuttle vehicles between the Hannah parking lot and URC. A special offering was taken to offset the cost of the vans. A policy for van use is being worked on.

In October, Byron Lane shared with the Consistory his participation in a leadership academy being conducted by his employer, the State of Michigan. He reminded Consistory of its need to provide opportunities to train and prepare men and women at URC for leadership roles in the congregation. Byron’s report has stimulated a lot of discussion among the elders relative to this need.

Consistory is looking at ways to improve communication within the congregation.

Bruce Roth presented the finance committee’s draft budget for 2007 at the December meeting. A number of changes will be made before the finance committee presents the final draft to Consistory for its approval at the 10 January meeting. The congregation will be asked to approve the budget at the congregational meeting on 26 January 2007.

Katie Middlestead will be leaving her position as Associate Director of Campus Ministry on 30 June 2007. Later in the year, Katie will assume a position in the Philippines with Food for the Hungry.

Gary Brinkman will chair the nomination committee who will be nominating candidates for the offices of elder, deacon, and deaconess who will take office in May 2007.

The next regular meeting of the Consistory is on 10 January 2007.
